INCa also promotes translational research by awarding “training grants” in order to provide young doctors with financial support for a Master’s or Doctorate degree in science, a post-doctoral programme conducted in partnership with biological and clinical research teams and to monitor and assist them in their professional development in order to advance this field of research.

Three calls for proposals resulted in financial support for 59 candidates (40 Master’s degrees, 14 Doctorates and 5 post-doctorates) in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The high volume of applications submitted highlights the growing interest of future doctors in translational research projects. INCa encourages efforts to promote interdisciplinary studies on basic scientific knowledge, clinical advances and behavioural studies on populations.

In the future, this programme should be open to post-doctoral science researchers interested in embarking in this field of inquiry.
