The ICGC Programme

Programme International Cancer Genome Consortium

The International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) programme plans to sequence the genomes of fifty or so types of cancer in order to gain a better understanding of the role of genomic modifications in their development.

INCa represents France in the ICGC, provides funding for projects led by the research teams and co-ordinates the entire system in France. The aim is to sequence the genome of five types of tumours. The first phase of the programme focuses on hepatocellular carcinoma (forms associated with alcohol) and HER2+ breast cancer.

Announced by the President of the French Republic on 2 November 2009, the 2009-2013 Cancer Plan expresses a willingness to “support the cancer genomics programme within the framework of the ICGC” (measure 5.4).
