Electromagnetic  Waves

Last updated on: 02/10/2011

Controversy exists over the health impact of electromagnetic waves present in the environment and in the workplace. Numerous studies have been conducted into the potential cancer risk associated with mobile telephones in particular but, to date, the scientific community has failed to establish a link between their use and an increased risk of cancer. In international study into this issue, known as the INTERPHONE study, began in 1999. The study was published in May 2010 and did not provide any evidence of an increased risk of developing glioma and meningioma ten years after the initial use of a mobile telephone.
However, in accordance with the precautionary principle and pending the results of further studies, the Ministry of Health has published a set of rules on the "proper use" of mobile telephones.
