Accueil Screening Those involved in the Screening Programme Gastroenterologists

Gastroenterologists

Gastroenterologists, or doctors specialising in the digestive system, play a role in the colorectal cancer screening process. Basically, in the event of positive results from a faecal occult blood test, the patient’s GP will refer them to a gastroenterologist, who will perform a colonoscopy to investigate the source of the bleeding. The gastroenterologist notifies the body in charge of organising screenings of all positive colonoscopy results. These results enable the body to evaluate and calculate the number of advanced tumours and adenomas detected, the number of false positives and whether there are any complications.
