Early Detection of Oral Cancer
Last updated on: 07/07/2010
Every year there are 7500 new cases of oral cancer – ¾ of which affecting men – including 1875 deaths. The situation in France is among the most serious in Europe. At this time in France, 70% of oral cancers are diagnosed at an advanced stage. And yet it is possible to detect them early, thus improving their prognosis and avoiding disfiguring treatment. Dental surgeons as well as all other professionals who conduct oral examinations (GPs, occupational doctors, etc.) can play a decisive role in detecting oral cancer. That is why, starting from 2007, the Institute, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, would like to rally the relevant professionals round this public health priority. In late 2008 a multimedia training module was made available on the French National Cancer Institute’s website.
Module de formation
Ces modules d’e-learning, destinés aux chirurgiens-dentistes et aux médecins généralistes, visent à prévenir et détecter des lésions suspectes par l’examen approfondi de la cavité buccale chez les patients à risque.
